Barbara Kierstead, Ph.C, owner of Newnham & Slipp Pharmacy has announced the sale of the business to her daughter, Lee-Ann Ritchie, Ph.C.
Barb will continue to work part-time as a relief Pharmacist.
This year marks the 95th anniversary of Newnham & Slipp Pharmacy. However there has been a Pharmacy at this site since 1839. Previous owners included three generations of the Baird family and E. W. Mair prior to Newnham & Slipp taking ownership in 1919. Ownership remained in the Geroge W. Slipp family until 1985.
In l985, Barbara Kierstead acquired ownership of Newnham & Slipp Pharmacy. Barb had been employed at the Pharmacy since 1969.
Each change of ownership has seen the transfer involve the owner and an employee.
The new owner, Lee-Ann Ritchie has been employed as a Pharmacist since 2000, when she completed her studies at Dalhousie University. She became the Pharmacy Manager in 2003.
Newnham & Slipp has been a very active member of the business community during Barb's ownership which saw the renovation and expansion of the Pharmacy and the creation of Kierstead Court, while maintaining the historic facade.. Barbara has been an active volunteer in “Downtown Woodstock”, the Carleton County Historical Society, the New Brunswick Pharmacists' Association, and the Woodstock Rotary Club, contributing to the Carleton Civic Centre, Carleton Manor, and most recently the Something for Everyone – Our Time To Grow Campaign. (Expansion of the L.P. Fisher Library, WHS Theatre, and the Carleton Civic Centre).
Barbara is pleased to continue the tradition of passing the business on to an employee and is certain that Lee-Ann will continue to provide excellence in Pharmacy services to the people of Woodstock and Carleton County.
